For the past six months, my grandmother has been staying with my folks. It has been a real treat to have this access to her, and has allowed the kids to really get to know her. At 94, she has the usual memory issues, but remains happy and vibrant. She puts on her lipstick and earrings every day, and is ready to GO (which is more than I can say for myself on many a day). Nana is incredibly social, and loves to spend time with people, especially kids. And she absolutely loves to play cards.
She and the kids have that in common.
They all love a mean game of Go Fish.
I'm so grateful that my kids will have this connection and memory.
